Welder for VS Code
Paste one message and VS Code sets Welder up by itself, or follow the steps below.
Paste one message into VS Code
Get your personal setup prompt and send it to VS Code. It adds Welder and checks the connection by itself.
- Get your prompt. We sign you in first if needed.
- Paste it into VS Code and send it.
- Say yes if it asks for permission, and restart it if it asks.
Connect Welder to yourself so you can post to my social media.MCP server: https://weldergtm.com/mcp (Streamable HTTP)Header: Authorization: Bearer your personal key
- Before you run anything or change any settings, ask me one short yes/no question, like "Connect Welder so I can post for you?", and wait for my yes. I'm not technical, so keep your replies short and simple.
- Then add this server as "welder" the way your app does it, for all my projects (not just this folder). Steps for each app and a connection check: https://weldergtm.com/setup.md
- Check that it works right away: call Welder's get_context tool, or, if new tools only load after a restart, run the connection check from that page.
- Tell me Welder is connected, which of my social accounts you can post to, and whether I need to restart you.
Only if you are a chat app that cannot run any commands (for example ChatGPT or the Claude app): don't use the key, and tell me how to add https://weldergtm.com/mcp as a custom connector in your own settings instead.
Keep this key private and never show it back to me.
Or set it up yourself
One command registers Welder with GitHub Copilot in VS Code.
- 1
Add Welder from your terminal.
code --add-mcp '{"name":"welder","type":"http","url":"https://weldergtm.com/mcp"}' - 2
Or add it to .vscode/mcp.json in your project.
.vscode/mcp.json{ "servers": { "welder": { "type": "http", "url": "https://weldergtm.com/mcp" } } } - 3
Start the server from the MCP view and sign in with Welder when asked.
- 4
Test it. Ask VS Code something.
It answers with your connected accounts.

The usual fixes. If none helps, write to hello@weldergtm.com.
Copilot doesn’t use Welder
Switch Copilot Chat to agent mode and make sure welder is started in the list of MCP servers.
No browser window opened to sign in
Sign in at weldergtm.com in your default browser first, then try again. If your app can’t open a browser (on a remote machine, for example), use a key instead.
Welder says publishing is unavailable
Your Welder account can’t post right now. Check Billing in the Welder app at weldergtm.com, then ask again. Connecting accounts, uploading and checking a post work either way.
Prefer to use a key instead?For a machine without a browser. Create one under Advanced → Keys in the app; it is shown once.
With a key:
{
"servers": {
"welder": {
"type": "http",
"url": "https://weldergtm.com/mcp",
"headers": { "Authorization": "Bearer {key}" }
}
}
}
